Thank you for calling RBI. Please do not hesitate to accept ten rupee coins in day to day transactions and do not believe in rumours regarding their genuineness.
The Reserve Bank of India puts into circulation coins minted by the mints of the Government of India. These coins have been introduced from time to time and have distinctive features and designs to reflect various themes of economic, social and cultural values. As coins remain in circulation for much longer period, it is quite possible that coins of different designs and shapes are available in the market at the same time. For instance, there are 2 distinct 10 rupee coins - one has rupee symbol with radiating lines pattern and the other one is without rupee symbol. There are also coins which have also been issued to commemorate events or personalities. Though they make look different, all of them are legal tender and good for transactions. For further information, please refer to the press release available on rbi.org.in.rbi.org.in.
